Equality, diversity, inclusion
Equality, diversity, inclusion
I’m Jude the founder at Equally Simple
I have been working in Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) for 17 years as a facilitator/trainer, project manager & consultant, working with Local Government, NHS & the voluntary and private sectors.
Our Mission is to put fairness at the core of everything we do – to illustrate that fairness doesn’t have to be complicated.
Small changes have potential for huge differences in business, improving staff retention, reflecting well on brand and reputation.
I have been working in Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) for 17 years. Some of this work has been as a facilitator/trainer, some in project management supporting minority groups. I have also developed and self-funded a photographic exhibition about Diversity in Cornwall. I have also supported organisations in achieving compliance, evaluation and illustrating commitment to EDI, in reports, for the funders of projects.
I have worked with partners in Local Government, the NHS and in the voluntary and private sectors.
The training I have developed covers the Equality Act and protected characteristics, including discrimination and harassment. This is awareness training; I cite some cases and I do illustrate what the Equality Act 2010 states is illegal.
I also include other topics and their interrelation with fairness and equity – Sexism, Misogyny/Misandry and VAWG (violence against women and girls), Unconscious Bias, Listening and Empathy, Victim Blaming and the business case for having an inclusive organisation.
Every day there are reports in the media about inequality in its many forms, often involving court cases and significant fines, because of breaches of the 2010 Equality Act. But as worrying, are the systematic traits of inequality within society where privilege (or a lack of it) may dictate life outcomes. I believe in a fairer future for all, by working together we can try to achieve this. So, the Mission at Equally Simple is, to put fairness at the core of everything we do.
The Vision at Equally Simple is to illustrate that fairness really doesn’t have to be complicated, that everyone can take some responsibility in creating a fairer and more equitable world, in our private lives, social lives and working lives.
Small changes have the potential to make a huge difference to a business, improving staff retention, as well as reflecting well on the brand and reputation of an organisation.
If you would like to discuss how Equally Simple could work with your organisation to become more inclusive get in touch.
I look forward to working with you!
Jude
If we stay in an “echo chamber” of our own beliefs and experiences we can learn nothing new! Nor can we understand our own privilege.
A diverse environment is one with a wide range of backgrounds and mindsets, challenges as well which allow us to embrace cultures and therefore foster more creativity and innovation.
Diversity allows for the exploration of differences, understanding one another by truly valuing those differences, to celebrate the diversity contained within each individual.
We need to place value on diversity in the community and in the workforces. Creating change is not easy, however the benefits to our organisations and communities are innumerable.
“The social justice case (for diversity) is based on the belief that everyone should have a right to equal access to employment, training and development based solely on merit. Everyone should have the right to be free of any direct or indirect discrimination and harassment or bullying. This can be described as the right to be treated fairly and the UK law, principally in the Equality Act 2010, sets minimum standards.”
“The business case for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) is stronger than ever.
Our latest report shows not only that the business case remains robust but also that the relationship between diversity on executive teams and the likelihood of financial outperformance has strengthened over time. These findings emerge from our largest data set so far, encompassing 15 countries and more than 1,000 large companies. By incorporating a “social listening” analysis of employee sentiment in online reviews, the report also provides new insights into how inclusion matters. It shows that companies should pay much greater attention to inclusion, even when they are relatively diverse.”
